Jamie Roberts
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Amityville, New York, Jamie gained an interest in comedy after being crowned âFunniest Personâ by his senior class in High School. It was then that he realized that comedy was where he belonged and hit the pavement convincing audiences one joke at a time. His first major win came at Stand Up NY, where he convinced the judges and won his next title, âFunniest Person from the Suburbsâ. He continued pushing forward, making strides in the comedic world with performances in New York City Tri-state area, Hollywood and Atlanta. Jamie broke barriers by becoming the first non-Latino to produce the Latino Laughter Comedy Show at the New York Comedy Club. In addition to producing the show, he also hosted it each week. This experience opened the door to him producing a string of independent shows in the New York Tri-State area, as well as a national college tour titled âOne Night Stand Comedy Tourâ. The tour supported and educated students about safe sex through stand up comedy.
Since then, heâs wowed hundreds of audiences and has been featured on MTV, Tidal, XM Radio, The Grio, The Root and New Yorkâs 770 WABC Radio. He added actor to his resume with roles in such popular shows and movies as NBCâs Law & Order and HBOâs Paterno, along with numerous commercials. He was even a featured cast member (along with his girlfriend) on the FYI Networkâs A Question of Love and is now in production for their own follow up show. Presently, Jamie is the Executive Producer and host of New Yorkâs longest running Sunday show, Sunday Night Live. He is also the Founder and Executive Director of Comedy With A Purpose, a business in which he uses comedy to address some serious social matters. Through Comedy with A Purpose, Jamie has helped raise funds for organizations such as Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation (CAASE) and Northwestern Universityâs Entertainment Alliance. Thereâs no stage too big and no feat unconquerable in Jamie Robertsâ world. With his clean-cut good looks, insatiable charm, and cutting edge comedy, heâs certainly the one to watch for.Shatara Curry
Jersey native Shatara Curry has officially unwrapped her gift of laughter, which comes as no surprise to many. Now, she is doing what every middle child from a big family does best, she is âsharingâ. It was love it first mic, when gracing the stage for the first time at New Yorkâs Boston Comedy Club. She jokes that it was after receiving her bachelors degree, she ran to the closest stage to put her newfound knowledge to the test. Since then Shatara has performed at some of New York Cities top comedy clubs like Carolineâs, Broadway Comedy Club, Comix, The Laugh Factory and Gotham. Doing comedy for over 10 years has also placed her in front of audiences across the country and even overseas.
Shatara or âShaterribleâ as she likes to call herself, freely uses her gift to gabb, speaking her mind with an intelligent razor sharp tongue and an unapologetic sassy confidence. Shatara is so animated, even does a glory song and dance about having no kids and not having crumbs in the backseat of her car. Her outgoing high energy, social insight and stage antics are hilarious. One canât help, but to love and appreciate her unfiltered honesty. Saying out loud what many of us wouldnât dare.By day her work with the child psych/behavioral health population brings out yet another one of Shataraâs multi faceted capabilities. âI absolutely love, love, love working with kids..probably cause I donât have any of my own. HA!â Although this is another heart tugging job, she feels it has been super rewarding and a blessing for the past 11 years. Just like comedy you have to have really tough skin. Like an adult audience, kids require a lot of you, and their honesty is genuine. There is nothing like an adorable, toothless 8 year old pulling you to the side to let you know with dyer emergency âlady, you have a mustacheâ. Then there is always that teenager literally having a nervousness break down on the floor, not because they broke their legs, but because their cell phone was taken away. So you best believe, after 5 0âClock, with a nerve twitching right eye, Shatara is not only looking forward to happy hour, but ready to unleash âShaterribleâ. Letting her hair down, bringing the uncut, unscripted, on edge âoff the clockâ comedy.
Today Shatara still resides in NJ, doing stand up comedy and continues to add feathers to her snazzy cap. Selling out at the world famous APOLLO THEATRE COMEDY CLUB, appearing on MSNBC, Chris Rock: Good Hair documentary segment, MSNBC; THE GRIO, THE DOCTOR OZ SHOW, ASPIRE TVâS, WE GOT NEXT, and recently taped for TRU TVâS, LAFF TRACKS.
